Anatomy/Physiology

Our human body is an amazing gift that most of us take for granted until something goes wrong. Kind of like with our computers or our cars. If you are one of those people, as I was, why not invest a few hours to learn about how your body works so, when it comes time, you are able to make what could be life-changing decisions about its care?

Western medicine is criticized for treating illness rather than creating wellness. And, at this time, this is still a legitimate complaint. Too often, if something happens to your body — a pain, discoloration, a lump — you either must choose to go to an ER or wait over a month to see your doctor, who will refer you to a "specialist." In your fifteen minute appointment with each doctor, how can you feel confident that you are getting what you need to return to health? These medical professionals likely know little of your medical history, or much about you as a person, yet they must accurately diagnose you and prescribe care. They don't have the time to explain to you how an organ or system works or how your problem fits into the bigger picture — how the medication you take to "fix" your problem can have adverse effects on another organ or body system in the process.

I have studied the body for years, and spent many hours boiling down into three and a half hours what I think is valuable knowledge for all to know, a Basic Owner's Manual of the human body. Beginning with the building blocks, the main cells in the body and how they differ, you will learn about the major systems of the body — the organs they include, what they do, and how they work. You will learn the location of the various organs in relation to where they are in your body, rather than where they are located in a drawing. I will break down different ways of looking at the systems, and talk about how they work together. The goal is that you be able to do troubleshooting yourself ; when you do see a professional, you can be discerning of the information you get so you leave them feel empowered, rather than clueless.

After all, it's up to you to create your own health and happiness.
